Woman of… film screening
Andrzej lives in a small Polish town, striving to be a good husband and father. However, he increasingly feels uncomfortable in a body that does not reflect his true identity.
Set during Poland’s transition from communism to capitalism, this story spans 45 years in the life of Aniela Wesoła, who has lived over half her adult life as a man in a provincial Polish town. Aniela’s journey toward personal freedom as a transgender woman highlights the challenges of marriage, parenthood, strained family relationships, and societal attitudes that continually place her in difficult situations. What choices will Aniela face? Will she sacrifice everything to become her true self?
The film will be followed by a discussion with Viktor Heumann.
Viktor Heumann is one of the founders of Trans*parent (2015), where he leads several projects aimed at improving health care for trans people, as well as education. He is a former collaborator of other Czech queer initiatives (Mezipatra, Jsme fér, etc.). Trained as an English scholar, and translator of various textual forms, including novels. He takes care of a small animal family.

Jana Čížkovská – graduated in Film Studies at the Charles University in Prague. Since 2011, she has been cooperating with numerous film festivals (IFF Zlín, IFF Anifilm, QFF Mezipatra, IFF Prague, IFF Cork, Finále Pilsen i. a.) as a curator, program consultant, catalogue editor or host.
Since 2018 Jana works as a buyer for Czech Television, at Feature Films and TV Series Acquisitions department, focusing on European cinema, VOD production and kid’s programming. Also, she is the head of programme of iShorts, short-form distribution platform, and collaborates regularly as a decision maker and expert with film funds, international markets and industry forums. Enjoys cooking, mushrooming and long walks with sausage dogs.
