I, Joan

Since the 15th century, Joan of Arc, also known as the Virgin of Orleans, has stood as a symbol of resilience and unwavering faith in God and herself. Fighting for freedom, individuality, and the right to authenticity, she embodies the voice of LGBTQI+ individuals, resonating powerfully even today. Her tale as the warrior woman who led the French army during the Hundred Years War against England, and later faced martyrdom by burning as a heretic in 1431 before being beatified in 1920, has been portrayed and interpreted by numerous artists throughout history.

In 2022, Charlie Josephine’s groundbreaking work, “I, Joan,” made its world premiere at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, receiving acclaim as one of the most provocative productions of the year. The Comedy Theatre’s adaptation of this text was crafted by a Czech-Slovak creative team in collaboration with the queer platform PiNKBUS. So there is no doubt that you will see an exuberant spectacle, which will, however, dig under your skin like a splinter from the wooden boundary erected by the church court under Joan.
