Presentation and Discussion: The Life of LGBT+ People Under the Influence of Chinese Tradition
We often talk about the rights of LGBTQ+ people to the east of us, but we rarely look all the way to China. Come and hear a discussion with interesting guests who have done a lot to help the LGBTQ+ community in China. Not only will you hear the perspective of lawyer Yiqiang Liu, but also the experiences of Qiu Bai, an activist who sued the Chinese government to ensure that incorrect information regarding homosexuality in textbooks is corrected. Yan Zi, the founder of a Chinese LGBTQ+ rights organization that advocates for marriage for all, will speak as well, and finally Pei, a student living in Europe who is involved in activities promoting equality and tolerance in society, will round out the discussion with her story. The discussion will be conducted in English and Chinese.
