Wenceslas Square – Pride Parade

The lower part of Wenceslas Square

Saturday’s Pride Parade is the most anticipated moment of Rainbow Week. Best of all, the fun doesn’t stop at the finish line but continues all afternoon and evening with music, great food and drink, and unforgettable encounters in Pride Park.

This year’s parade is called “March for Every Family.” (Older attendees might remember the days when the homophobic March for the Family was purposely held on the same day as the Prague Parade.)

Bring your loved ones and come enjoy the parade together—whether they are your blood relatives or members of your chosen family who provide you with support and unconditional acceptance. All families are welcome, no matter what they look like!

Due to the construction of the tram line on Wenceslas Square, we recommend avoiding Jindřišská and Vodičkova streets. Plan your arrival from the direction of Národní třída, Náměstí Republiky or from the metro station Můstek.

Meeting Place – Lower Part of Wenceslas Square

The parade will once again start from the lower side of Wenceslas Square. The head of the parade will be at the corner of Můstek and Na Příkopě Street and will set off at 12:00pm. But come much earlier, say at 11:00am, to have enough time to get into the rainbow vibe by listening to music from DJ Honza Witek, admiring the cool outfits of the other participants, fine-tuning your own rainbow look, and saying hello to all the friends you’ll meet there.

There will be plenty going on at the gathering place:

  • You can buy rainbow accessories at the Queershop booths.
  • The Hard Rock Café will also be offering rainbow merch, with 20% of the proceeds going to support the festival.
  • Get your makeup done at the Givet booth.
  • Create your own banner for the parade at two designated spots to show your views and values.
  • If it’s hot, make sure to stay hydrated with non-alcoholic drinks available at the refreshment stall at the meeting point.

There will also be mobile toilets, including accessible ones for people with limited mobility and baby changing facilities.

Parade Route

We will follow the same route through the picturesque historic center of Prague as last year: along Na Příkopě Street, Celetná Street, through Old Town Square, and Pařížská Street to Čechův Bridge. From there, we will climb the stairs to Letná and head down the final stretch to Pride Park.

The route is just over three kilometers long, so please consider this when choosing appropriate footwear and making sure you have enough non-alcoholic drinks. Remember to recycle empty wrappers and avoid throwing them in the mixed trash bins on the streets. Carry an empty plastic bottle and drop it in the sorted waste bins at Pride Park. Hand your cans to the “Every Can Counts” teams that will be in the parade and on the steps to Letná; they will collect the empty cans for proper recycling.

There will be a stand in Old Town Square selling refreshments, especially cold soft drinks. Mobile toilets, including accessible ones for people with reduced mobility and baby changing facilities, will also be available.

Sustainability is very important to us, which is why there will be no cars with internal combustion engines in the parade again this year. The vehicle from our proud partner, the largest Czech carsharing company CAR4WAY, is electric.

DJs on four Sky Stages and several other musical islands located along the route will provide musical accompaniment for the parade.

The head of the parade is expected to arrive at Pride Park a little after 2pm.

Security

The smooth running of the parade is ensured by the police, a private security agency, and trained volunteers wearing reflective vests, who carry radios and can quickly communicate with the police commander overseeing the event. Red Cross medics will also be present to help with sudden nausea, heat stroke, or a twisted ankle if you overdo it with the height of your heels.

But first and foremost, everyone is responsible for their own safety and comfort. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and headgear, but leave alcohol and drugs at home. Choose footwear that can handle the trail, including cobblestone sections and stair climbs.

Accessibility

The parade will include an electric train for the youngest and oldest participants for whom the route would be too tiring. Passengers can board the parade train at Wenceslas Square.

This year, a special low-floor trams with air conditioning will transport those who cannot manage the stairs leading to Letná. This tram will run between the stops Čechův most (the stop on the right side of the bridge looking at the staircase) and Pride Park Letná (normally the stop Korunovační/Sparta). It will not open the doors at other stops, ensuring no risk of homophobic confrontations. The tram is primarily intended for people in wheelchairs, those with reduced mobility, and people with prams and small children. However, anyone can board until the tram is full.
