The new Czech Television series Filter had its world premiere at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Special Screenings section – an achievement in itself. The six-part, half-hour series was directed and written by David Semler. Come watch Filter on the big screen and meet the creative team behind it.

Matty (Antonio Šoposki) is an introverted teenager who has managed to come out despite his hesitant and indecisive nature. He is surrounded by a supportive family (Martha Issová, Simona Peková) and friends (Daniel Šíp, Julie Louthanová). But when he falls in love with Radek (Adam Buš), a boy his own age, while applying to an art high school, he is confronted with the confusing reality of first love, mistakes, and heartbreak. Acting with the best intentions, he makes a few poor decisions that gradually spiral out of control. Within a matter of weeks, his innocent childhood world gives way to the harsh realities of growing up. Suddenly, he must face unexpected challenges and misunderstanding from those around him. Will he be able to find a fragile inner balance amid the turmoil of adolescence?

The screening of the first three episodes will be followed by a moderated discussion with the creators, cast members, and a mental health expert.

The series is screened in Czech with English subtitles. The post-screening discussion will be held in Czech only.
