Flee

The animated documentary Flee tells the extraordinary true story of Amin, whose approaching marriage compels him to reveal his hidden past for the first time.
A respected 36-year-old academic, known in the film under the pseudonym Amin Nawabi, wrestles with a painful secret he has kept for 20 years. He fears it could destroy the life he has built for himself and his future husband. He shares his story with director Jonas Poher Rasmussen, a close friend and former high school classmate. For the first time ever, through powerful animation, Amin recounts his remarkable journey as a child refugee from Afghanistan.
In a heartfelt conversation between Jonas and Amin, a deeply moving story of self-discovery unfolds—revealing that only by confronting the past can we shape our future. The film conveys a universal truth: we can only find the true meaning of home once we stop running from who we are.
Danish director Jonas Poher Rasmussen earned three Academy Award nominations for Flee in 2022.
