Mezipatra: Austrian Shorts – Young, Bold and Free

Austrian films by the young generation of female filmmakers tackle issues that are of pressing concern not only to their peers, and they do so fearlessly, playfully, and with empathy. We introduced Maria Luise Lehner last year at Mezipatra with her feature debut, which won the Teddy Jury Award at Berlinale. Her films address current social issues from a queer and feminist perspective. She approaches them with ease and humor without losing their urgency.

Her film The Zip of My Pants Is Open. Like My Heart is about female desire and the search for its fulfillment in the protagonist’s vivid fantasies.

In snippets of conversations among several women, film Gaps reveals the presence of sexualized violence in everyday life.

The program will be completed by the film Unleaded 95, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, by the filmmaking duo Emma Hütt and Tina Muffler. It takes a look at the countryside, where life revolves around a local gas station that serves as a surprising spot for lesbian cruising. It is also important to three friends whose secret relationships will lead to several dramatic events.

The event is organized in cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum in Prague.
