120 BPM Film Screening

Early 1990s Paris. AIDS has been claiming lives for a decade, yet activists from the local chapter of ACT UP continue to fight against public indifference, government inaction, and the manoeuvring of pharmaceutical companies. Newcomer Nathan becomes involved with Sean, a passionate and outspoken activist whose political struggle is also a fight for survival. Sean is HIV-positive, and time is running out.
The film’s title refers both to a heartbeat monitor and to the driving house beats that filled the dance clubs of the era. Combining political urgency with intimate storytelling, 120 BPM offers a powerful portrait of a community determined to fight for its future and to live politics in the first person.
The screening will be followed by a discussion (in Czech only).
