Little Trouble Girls

Lucia is a shy sixteen-year-old girl growing up under the watchful eye of her mother. Joining a Catholic choir is meant to ensure her proper and virtuous upbringing. But during a summer retreat in the idyllic setting of an Italian monastery, her path crosses with the radiant Ana-Maria and a dark-eyed art restorer. Nature is in full bloom, the air is filled with the scent of roses, and Lucia begins to discover a new language of her own body—one that clashes with the church’s ideals of modesty and her own innocent faith. Are the grapes of our sins truly so sour, even when we break free from ancient values and start listening to ourselves?
Urška Djukić’s debut feature is a visually rich and emotionally charged film that recalls the work of Céline Sciamma. However, its sensuous, inventive style where Christian symbolism intertwines with raw physicality reveals a singular artistic vision and marks Djukić as one of the most exciting voices in emerging European cinema.
The screening will be introduced by Jana Čížkovská, Czech Television curator.
