My Mother’s Home
Opening of the exhibition “My Mother’s Home” by artist Lê Thị Hoài, which explores the identity crisis of a young Asian woman living in Europe. The artist seeks a sense of belonging, acceptance, and understanding. She aims to create transferable roots through her own shrine based on the tradition of an ancestral cult. The belief in dead ancestors is tied to a conviction of a “moral debt to ancestors,” but the artist also challenges the patriarchal, heteronormative, and conservative structure that her ancestors embodied.
