Fourteen-year-old Nora lives in the cool Kreuzberg district of Berlin. Her older sister, who practically raised her, enjoys her free time with a group of friends and takes Nora everywhere with her. They stroll around the city or hang out by the swimming pool, where they can hide from the scorching sun at least for a while. Nora is seen as a silent observer, who prefers to sit nearby and captures the world around her through Instagram videos. Even her other hobby, breeding caterpillars and butterflies, does not add to her popularity among peers. Her timid attitude begins to change the moment she meets a free-spirited and charismatic Roma. The daily routine is replaced by adventure, and thanks to the new girl Nora experiences great love for the first time, with all the joys and sorrows that are inseparable from it. Just as caterpillars slowly turn into butterflies with colourful wings, Nora becomes a young woman. And all thanks to a few sunny months in a hot city.
The tender and at the same time dynamic coming-of-age film is the work of director Leonie Krippendorff, whose work is closely connected not only with LGBTQ+ themes, but also with Berlin and its unique atmosphere. The director will also take part in a special Q&A before the film, from 19:00 in the Pool.
The film is in German with Czech and English subtitles.
The screening takes place in the courtyard of the Karlín Barracks. In case of rain, it moves to the Garages.
The film is screened as part of the Identity in the City program, which presents the Mezipatra queer film festival during Prague Pride.
Every year, the Mezipatra Queer Film Festival presents around a hundred Czech and foreign films with LGBTQ + themes and their creators. Films are awarded by an expert jury within the prestigious international competition of international films, but also by spectators. An integral part of the program are the accompanying discussions, lectures, workshops, exhibitions and parties. The main part of the festival takes place in Prague and Brno in November and in the form of echoes in selected cities in the Czech Republic.
